On Sunday's episode of Ability Fierce we discuss the MTA's recently announced cuts to the highly successful E-hail program that let Access-a-Ride users hail accessible taxis through an app and pay $2.75 per trip, just like they would on the subway if it was accessible. The state government announced the plan as an expansion of the highly successful program but actually, don't be fooled, they are gutting it. They are doubling the number of people served but limiting rides to 16 per month and putting a $15 cap on fares so anything above that falls to the user. For people, like our guest, Dustin Jones of United for Equal Access that means he can't take it to work or even take it very far. Since he lives in the Bronx he can't take it anywhere really without having to chip in on top of the fare. And while Dustin is lucky to be one of the few disabled people lucky enough to have a job, it's way more than he can afford. We also talk about his time in the NYC Homeless Shelter system and his work supporting Samelys Lopez's run for Congress in the 15th District.
